Positive: We had a really nice stay here. The hosts were really friendly and welcoming. Fenrir the dog is a gorgeous boy! I was so excited to see him in the morning. We got to feed the donkeys and goats in the morning and have a lovely chat about the hosts plans for the farm. The bed was comfortable as well & we loved the complimentary tea and coffee. Give Fenrir a hug for us! 😊
Negative: The only issues we had were that the door didn’t shut properly (it’s bowing in the middle) & the bathroom window had no privacy glass or curtains so people outside can see you in there. Also to note, there is nobody else around apart from the hosts so there should be nobody there to see you & the cabin was still very warm even with the door bowed. The hosts did provide a mosquito net if you choose to use it. To be fair to the hosts, we didn’t mention this while we stayed so they weren’t to know we had a problem with it.

Positive: Sea and Karl were very welcoming hosts and shared lots of local knowledge on this spectacular part of the country, not to mention an inspirational lifestyle and vision for the property. We also loved meeting Fenn the dog and feeding the goats and mini donkeys. The cottage was cosy with everything we needed and as per the description and photos. Although not a big deal for us, two things worth keeping in mind are that the bathroom is close by in the main house which may be a slight hassle in poor weather and the nearest place for a meal could be a 25min drive away in Collingwood (as was the case for us at 7.30pm on a Thursday).

Positive: We absolutely loved our stay here with Karl and Sea! The cabin we stayed in was a spacious, well decorated and well equipped home for our 2 nights in the area. Location is perfect as it’s not far from Wharariki Beach and also has an amazing view of the Spit. The couple that own the place were so welcoming and had great communication with us about our stay. They also let us feed some of the animals on the farm which we enjoyed very much. Overall, our stay was a highlight of our time in the South Island of NZ and we couldn’t thank Karl and Sea enough for their hospitality. They were exceptional : )

Positive: My daughter and I loved the very special location of the farm at the tippy top of the South Island, with its spectacular views en route and once we arrived. The cozy, comfy bunkie and sweet porch were a perfect mini-retreat, and we appreciated the warm hospitality of our hosts, Sea and Karl, along with their local knowledge. We enjoyed meeting many of the beloved farm animals with their hilarious names, and visiting the local swimming hole, the spectacular walks, and the incredible nearby Wharariki Beach (which was so cool even in the partial fog). All of these elements contributed to our wonderful unforgettable time at Mælstrøm End Eco Farmstay and our visit to this serene yet vibrant corner of the Earth (we already miss their magical and friendly white shepherd dog!)
